Second trimester pregnancy refers to the period of 4-6 months of the gestation period. During second trimester, fetus shows some prominent developments. The emotional changes even-out by the second trimester of pregnancy. Pain in second trimester is commonly experienced as the woman starts experiencing initial fetus movements. Based on the onset of this pain, many women gets an understanding as to what week is the second trimester starting. However, a consultation with a gynecologist can make the patient understand as to when the second trimester starts. The period between the 13th & 27th second trimester weeks is called the honeymoon period, for the reason that there is less pain in pregnancy. Due to this fact, second trimester fatigue may be usually observed. Second trimester is also the period in which normal sexual desire returns. Other second trimester symptoms include abrupt stop in morning sickness, breathlessness etc. Stretch marks in the areas surrounding the uterus can also be seen as the baby experiences second trimester weight gain. During the second trimester baby shows physical signals like hiccups etc, indicating the growth. A comprehensive second trimester screening can help in visually confirming this growth. For screening, it is very common to have a second trimester ultrasound. Although in second trimester pain during pregnancy is usual, it should not be taken for granted. If it is taken lightly, it may lead to even second trimester miscarriage. A Second trimester abortion can mentally & physically harm the woman.
