Assisted Reproductive Technology

ART is chosen directly to some couple because of the conviction that cost effective IUI will not work on them, wasting money in undergoing ovarian stimulation and undergoing IUI may result in unnecessary expenditure and female age is also important criteria. There are various methods: In Vitro fertilization is chosen mainly for female infertility due to blocked tubes.

ART chosen for male infertility is ICSI (Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection) and transferring the embryo to the uterus. In both IVF and ICSI the basic principle of controlled ovarian stimulation is same.We try to get the minimum number of mature eggs by giving a minimal but an adequate dose of medicine. In both conditions the follicles are aspirated and the eggs are separated and used either for IVF or ICSI.

If the female is young, with regular periods ,hormone levels are normal, she will need only the minimum amount of medicines for producing minimum eggs. There is no general protocol for ovarian stimulation, it is tailor made for each couple according to the need. Long protocol suppression has brought down the cycle cancellation rate .In other protocols some time we face premature LH surge and ovulation .

Below are assisted reproductive technologies

  •  In vitro fertilization (IVF):
This is one amongst the foremost usually used techniques. Eggs are inseminated with husband's sperm in petridish in a culture lab and incubated, subsequent embryos are transferred in to the uterus
  • Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI):

To one egg of the female partner, one sperm is injected and resulting embryo is transferred into the uterus.

Modern techniques ICSI/IMSI/PESA-ICSI/TESA-ICSI all have revolutionized the treatment of male infertility.
