In a woman
Estradiol
This test is used to determine ovarian function and to evaluate the quality of the eggs in women. This test is done on the third day of a woman's menstrual cycle.
FSH (Follicle-stimulating hormone)
This test helps woman to control production of eggs and the menstrual cycle. FSH test is conducted on the third day of the menstrual cycle to determine egg supply.
Luteinizing Hormone Level
Also helps in furthering the growth of follicles and final rupture releasing the egg.
Serum Progesterone
After releasing the egg, the follicle gets converted to a corpus luteum producing progesterone which supports pregnancy.
Prolactin
Is produced from pituitary. When produced in high level in female, it causes irregular period & anovulation; and in men loss of libido and erectile dysfunction at times.
Androgen
A well-known androgen is testosterone, which affects both women and men.
In women it determines the cause of irregular periods or sex drive, while in man this determines the cause of low sexual desire and erectile dysfunction.
